Why Summer Camp is a Great Way To Start Your Gap Year

1

Free food and accommodation!

When you sign your contract, you are agreeing to live on-site for free, and all your food is included. This means three meals a day plus all the fun camp snacks! You don’t have to worry about paying rent, bills, or going grocery shopping. Even the annoyance of figuring out what you want to have for dinner is gone. Camp has you covered.

2

Activities at camp are free.

When you are travelling around the world, the cost of activities can hit your budget! Water-skiing, zip-lining, sailing - you can do all of these for free at camp! Camp is perfect for trying brand new activities every day, and you are getting paid for it.

3

Cheap transport options.

Getting around North America is extremely easy; with cheap bus companies like Flixbus or Greyhound, you could be in another city for as low as $1! Because North America is so big, you can use cheap transportation as your accommodation for the night. Overnight buses or trains to get to your next destination are a no-brainer and a great way to save money as you travel.

4

Make friends around the world.

Camp agencies hire from around the world, meaning that when you head to summer camp, you are going to make friends from across the globe. Camp is designed for you to make friends and have these unique bonding moments that will last for a lifetime. Having all these connections from around the world allows you to expand and gives you a reason to go and visit that new country. Always have a friend's sofa to sleep on and a built-in tour guide to show you around.

5

Option of extended camp season work.

Many camps operate outside of the camp sessions. Some camps hire people to work to get the site, some camps hire people as they run private rentals on the shoulder month; some camps are open all year round and need people to stay on site to help manage that load. Having these options can extend your camp season work and help generate more money in your wallet before travelling further.

6

The camp community is a huge networking opportunity.

It could be that someone who knows someone, or maybe a parent you may meet. Your resume will have the camp on it, and instantly that could work in your favour. If someone associates positivity and trust with the camp you’ve just worked at, that can help massively in your next move and help you land on your feet.
